Conquering Anxiety in the Age of Distraction

In my first thousand years, I faced the siege of cities, the fall of empires, and the occasional dragon that refused to take feedback. Yet none of these trials prepared me for the true battle of our era: the war for attention.
I’ve wielded blades forged in fire and words sharpened in strategy, but no weapon is more dangerous than the glowing rectangle that hums beside my bed.
The battlefield is now the feed. And it demands tribute every waking moment.
Set Your Fortifications
A warlord without walls is a wanderer.
If your mind is the fortress, your phone is the battering ram. Build your boundaries: silence the endless horns of notification, schedule hours when no one may breach your gates.
Your peace is a province. Guard it fiercely.
Curate the Counsel You Keep
I once dismissed half my council for treasonous whispering. Today, I simply mute them.
Not every voice deserves a seat at your round table. Surround yourself with those who add wisdom, humor, or light; not those who stir the cauldron of chaos.
Your feed should be a kingdom of clarity, not a carnival of complaint.
Retreat to Advance
Even the greatest conqueror knows when to withdraw.
When the noise grows loud and the scroll becomes endless, step outside the walls. Walk beneath the sun. Touch something that does not glow.
You cannot win a war if you never leave the field.
Reframe the Mission
Before you draw your weapon, or open your app, ask: What is my intent?
To connect? To create? Or to compare your campaign to another’s?Awareness is the new armor.
If you post, do so with purpose. If you rest, do so without guilt. Even warlords need Wi-Fi breaks.
Remember the Machine’s True Purpose
The algorithm is not evil, it’s just hungry.
It feeds on attention, emotion, and outrage. You cannot destroy it, but you can deny it your fear.Use it as you would a spell or siege engine: strategically, briefly, and never without intent.
Technology is a tool. Anxiety is what happens when the tool starts to use you.
Final Reflection
Conquest in the digital age is no longer about land, gold, or even armies. It’s about presence. About showing up in a world designed to scatter you.
So I meditate with one hand on my sword and the other hovering over “Airplane Mode.”For even warlords need silence to hear themselves think.
What do you do to manage your technology?
